Light Trails

A long exposure of the city after the last train.

THE STORY

Shot from a footbridge over the motorway on the way home from a late maintenance window. I had a tripod in the car for exactly this reason; you spend enough time awake at 2am and you start looking for something to point a camera at.

Thirty-second exposure at f/11, ISO 100. Every streak is a car I never saw, compressed into a single frame. The city is dead quiet in person; the photo makes it look frantic.

Barely edited, just pulled the shadows down until the blacks were properly black and let the sodium-lamp warmth carry the colour. It happens to match the bronze the rest of this site is built on, which I'd love to claim was intentional.
