Thousands of fine bronze streamlines forming turbulent currents.

Flow Field

Ten thousand particles following an invisible vector field.

THE STORY

A flow field is the oldest trick in the generative-art book, but I never get tired of it. You define an invisible grid of angles, drop thousands of particles onto it, and let each one steer by whatever angle it's currently standing on. Nobody draws the curves; they emerge from the crowd.

The trick to making it feel like a current rather than noise is restraint: low particle speed, long trails, and an angle field that changes slowly across space. I seeded this one from the same noise function as Contour Field, so the two pieces are secretly the same landscape seen two different ways.

Ten thousand agents, one rule each, no coordination, and yet it organises into something that looks deliberate. That's basically why I like running infrastructure too.
